BROADSTAIRS
Seacroft, Broadstairs, Kent
Site description: The site comprises of a large bungalow to the front and a generous south-east facing rear garden. The site is heavily screened with a number of trees and mature shrubs to its rear boundaries. Distant views to the sea can be seen from the front garden.
Proposal: The proposal is for the demolition of circa 1950s existing 3 bedroom bungalow, with the replacement of two proposed 4 bedroom dwellings. The original bungalow is not of any particular architectural merit and provides dark internal living spaces.
The design intent is to retain the rhythm of the street scene along Seacroft road, while introducing two contemporary costal dwellings that enhance the setting. Access to the rear plot is proposed to the north-west of the site, providing a discreet entrance off Seacroft rd. The front plot offers a front driveway reflecting the existing.
The design of both buildings have been carefully considered to be sensitive to the form, position and character of the neighbouring properties, whilst opening up internal spaces to maximise light and views through orientation.
Materials whilst reflecting those used elsewhere in Broadstairs, provide a sustainable and contemporary solution, ensuring that the houses will enhance its surroundings. RIBA Stages 0-3
