Cobbeck, Westerham, Kent

Site description: Cobbeck House is situated in a residential street in a conservation area in Westerham. It is sandwiched between two vernacular buildings. The original building was a grey block work  1960’s building which the clients asked us to extend and completely refurbish, within a contemporary  design  without loosing the essence of the original design.

Proposal: The extension was designed as a series of folding planes that wrapped around the building framing and screening certain views.

The fenestration was treated as slots to define the separate elements and to allow the walls and roof to hover and float. RIBA Stages 0-7*
