GOUDHURST

Torvalla, North Road, Goudhurst

Site: The site sits at the edge of the conservation area between the historic village centre of Goudhurst and the agricultural landscape beyond.  The plot is long and thin, sandwiched  between buildings in a residential street, adjacent to the road. The garden slopes steeply at the rear with distant views to open countryside to the NW.

Proposal: The proposal is for a contemporary replacement family dwelling forms a transition from a restrained entrance with a series of ivy walls, fronting the public road through to a ‘garden building in timber and glass opening out onto the landscape. Roof terraces and balconies step down the site angled to maximise south-west light and views. The proposal aims to provide a  dramatic family home, responding  directly to its site whilst  being sympathetic to the historic character of

Goudhurst  and contributing to its continued history. RIBA 0-7*
